Supplements: Fueling Up for Better Work-Life Balance
Over time, I've learned a few tricks and hacks to keep physical and emotional balance. Just like our startups, our bodies, and minds need the right fuel to function optimally. I've compiled a list of supplements that have helped me immensely in managing stress, enhancing performance, meditating better, and establishing a healthier work-life balance.
Magnesium:
Often dubbed as the 'master mineral', magnesium is involved in over 600 reactions in our bodies, from energy creation to muscle movement to nervous system regulation. It's helped me keep fatigue at bay and manage stress more effectively.
Vitamin B Complex:
Think of this as the power backup for your body. B vitamins play a crucial role in maintaining our energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. They've helped me stay focused and alert, even during late-night sessions. Additionally, they've improved my sleep quality, making sure I wake up refreshed and ready to seize the day.
Omega-3 / DHA:
This one is for your brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, are essential for the proper functioning of our nervous system. They provide fuel for our brain, aiding cognition and mental endurance. I've noticed a sharper mind and better decision-making abilities since incorporating them into my routine.
Melatonin:
How many times have we compromised our sleep for work? But proper rest is non-negotiable for sustained productivity. Melatonin, a natural hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, has been my go-to for ensuring deep and restorative sleep. A dose of 1-3mg about half an hour before bedtime does wonders.
Ashwagandha:
Ashwagandha is an ancient Ayurvedic herb known for its adaptogenic properties, meaning it helps the body respond better to stress. It's been my secret weapon for those tough negotiations and high-stake pitches.
Vitamin D:
Our indoor-biased workstyle often leads to Vitamin D deficiency. Trust me, you don't want to underestimate this one. Similar to Magnesium, it triggers multiple essential functions of the body. It’s key for immune function and mood regulation.
Vitamin K2:
An often-overlooked nutrient, Vitamin K2 plays a key role in bone health and cardiovascular health. Since most of us get plenty of sitting time, this supplement can be a great addition to overall body health.
Zinc:
This is an essential trace element that our body can't produce or store, so consistent intake is crucial. Zinc is vital for immune function, metabolic health, and tissue healing. It's also been linked to stress reduction and improved sleep quality.
But remember, while these supplements have been beneficial for me, they're not a magic bullet. Pair them with a balanced diet, regular exercise, mindful breaks, and adequate sleep for the best outcomes. If you have pre-existing health conditions, make sure to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.
